Durre Brothers, located in Central Illinois, was experiencing on-going problems with one of their manufacturing processes. Their first problem was that prior to shipping, Quality Control was rejecting a number of manufactured parts due to a rust build up on the pieces. Secondly, Durre Brothers was spending an inordinate amount of time removing the rust from the rejected pieces before shipping, along with experiencing operator skin issues because of the acidity of the solution used to eliminate the rust on the piece.

In an effort to improve and enhance the quality of the product produced, Durre Brothers actively started searching for a "safer" solution for their corrosion problem. Brian Porter, of Chemtool Incorporated, visited Durre Brothers in late October 2006. Brian gathered information about the Durre Brothers finishing process. After reviewing the process, Brian suggested that Durre Brothers run a trial of a new Chemtool Incorporated technology called Rust Rid. Brian felt that Chemtool Incorporated would be able to treat the pieces quicker, safer and provide a cleaner end product for Durre Brothers.

The trial ran extremely well. Pieces were dipped in a bath of ambient water mixed with Rust Rid at a concentration level of 25%. The pieces were dipped for a period of up to 30 minutes, then allowed to air dry. The result was a finished piece that was clean and free of corrosion in half of the original time.
